Since being commissioned by Anna Piaggi to illustrate for Vogue Italia whilst he was a student; Richard Gray’s work has become sought after by some of the biggest names in fashion (Agent Provocateur and Givenchy to name a few). In addition, his work has graced the pages of V Magazine and numerous titles of Vogue.
Gray had a unique working relationship with Alexander McQueen, contributing to his 2004 show at Belsay and his Black Exhibition also in 2004. In addition, Gray’s work can be seen upon the invitations for McQueen’s S/S 2008 collection ‘La Dame Bleue’, which featured his illustration of Isabella Blow – whom the collection was dedicated to.
Gray’s work has a unique graphic style that uses a mixed media of ink, pencil and collage. I admire his work and find the layers and textures within it to be very visually stimulating and artistically dynamic.
